First-Time Lay-Z-Spa Set Up: Your Step-by-Step Guide

First-Time Lay-Z-Spa Set Up: Your Step-by-Step Guide

So, you’ve just brought home your brand-new Lay-Z-Spa — congratulations! 🎉 Whether you’ve chosen the spacious Toronto or another model from the range, setting up your hot tub for the first time is easier than you might think. To help you get started, we’ve put together this simple guide so you can enjoy your first dip with confidence.

1. Choose the Perfect Spot

Pick a flat, stable surface that can support the weight of the spa when full. Avoid decking that isn’t reinforced, and make sure you’re near a power supply. We suggest you use the Lay-Z-Spa protective floor mat (available to purchase from RW Home & Garden) to add extra stability and insulation.

2. Lay Out and Inflate

Unpack your spa and spread it out on the chosen area. Using the built-in pump, inflate the spa and/or cover. The process is quick and doesn’t require any tools. Once fully inflated, check that the spa walls are firm but not overstretched.

3. Add the Foam Walls (Toronto Model)

If you’ve purchased the Lay-Z-Spa Toronto, it comes with insulated foam wall panels that slot neatly into the liner. This step adds extra stability, improved energy efficiency, and a premium feel. Carefully insert each panel around the interior of the liner before connecting the pump.

4. Connect the Pump & Filter

Attach the pump and connect the filter housing securely. Insert a filter cartridge and make sure it’s clean before filling with water. The filter will keep your spa water clear and ready to enjoy.

5. Fill with Water

Using a garden hose, fill the spa up to the max fill line (marked inside the liner). Depending on your water pressure, this can take anywhere from 1–2 hours.

Top Tip: We fill ours from a hot kitchen or bathroom tap using a hose adaptor — this way the water heats up much faster, and your spa can be ready to enjoy the very same day.

⚠️ Important: Always ensure the water temperature does not exceed 40°C when filling. Overheating can damage the liner and pump. Most modern boilers can be adjusted, so check your settings before using hot water.

6. Heat It Up

Switch on the pump and set your desired temperature — up to a relaxing 40°C. Heating time varies, but generally expect 6–12 hours for the water to reach full temperature.

💡 Pro Tip: Always keep your insulated lid on while heating to speed things up and save energy. We also use a Lay-Z-Spa Thermal Cover on our Toronto tub — it works like a thermal jacket, keeping the spa warmer for longer and making it even more energy efficient. These thermal covers are available to purchase directly from RW Home & Garden.

7. Add Chemicals

Keeping your spa water safe is simple with the ClearWater Spa Starter Kit (Available to purchase from us). Follow the instructions for using chlorine granules, test strips, and pH balancers to maintain crystal-clear, hygienic water.

8. Relax & Enjoy

Once heated and treated, your spa is ready to use! Invite friends over, enjoy a family soak, or unwind under the stars — your Lay-Z-Spa is built for every occasion.

Bonus Tips

  • Always keep your lid on when the spa isn’t in use to maintain heat and prevent debris.
  • Clean or replace your filter regularly.
  • Run a weekly shock dose to keep your water sparkling.
